And as hypnotists it's important to create an environment for success for each of our clients. We don't want to make suggestions based on what they don't want to happen in their lives, we want to suggest what they do want.
We want to help them imagine success.
Focusing on "the positive" in this sense means getting clients to focus on what they DO want, and there's neuroscience to back why this is important.
The Reticular Activating System (RAS) is part of the brain that functions as a filter for our experience. It resides at the top of our brain stem.
At any point we have over 30 million bits of information entering into our awareness through our perception and sensory data, however we're only remotely aware of about 1,000 bits of that information, and only consciously aware of about 10 bits of that information!
How does our brain know what to help us be aware of consciously? That's the job of the RAS.
When we help our clients focus on what they DO WANT their RAS will be on the lookout for experiences that match what they've programmed it for.
This means our clients will notice when things are working well. They'll be on alert for experiences that match what they've seeded their RAS with.
One way to work with clients who come in with plenty of "dont's" is to ask them to imagine the exact opposite of what they're currently experiencing:
Another approach is to get them to imagine what feeling good is like:
Helping our clients imagine these outcomes can help to quantify what success can be like, and create milestones that you can work to accomplish. Once a client is excited about what they can achieve, we can work with techniques like age progression to imagine a future scenario where they are successful to get them energized, ready to go, and happier than ever before.
Don't let your client get stuck in the negative, help them to embody success by having them imagine what success looks like, sounds like, smells like, tastes like, and feels like using powerful hypnosis to lock in the change and keep them on a healthier, happier path for the rest of their life.
