Taming Excessive Appetites with Tea

Written by Erika Flint, BCH, OB | Sep 20, 2023 10:11:15 PM

Tea is such a relief for our weight loss clients. I've had several clients see amazing results by reaching for a cup of tea rather than an unhealthy snack. You can easily find it any grocery store, and has been enjoyed by people for thousands of years.

@djdancinghypnotist Tea and especially warm spicey tea helps a lot of weight loss clients by offering something thet is comforting, and tastes sweet - even if theres no sugar, as an alternative for something sweet. Plenty of my clients use tea as their go-to when they want something sweet at the end of their day. This is done with a lot of self love and understanding of meeting our needs at a deeper level. #professionalhypnosistraining #hypnosisforweightloss #reprogramyourweight ♬ original sound - Erika Flint Dancing Hypnotist

Why tea?

Tea is an amazing way to have a flavorful treat that doesn't have any sugar or a lot of calories (Don't add any sugar or cream!). There are so many different flavors that can be easily found. It can be enjoyed both hot and cold to keep you comfortable no matter the weather. Now that it's fall I find that a hot cup of tea is so soothing and comforting as well as delicious.

What tea should I try?

There are hundreds of tea varieties which makes it easy to find something you'll love. I recommend finding a decaffeinated tea you love, especially if you'll want to drink some at night. If you're brand new to tea there are many familiar flavors you can try such as cinnamon, orange, apple cider, or mint.

Many teas also have scientifically supported benefits such as:

  • Hibiscus tea - One of the best for weight loss as it's been shown to help curb cravings for sweets. It also benefits kidney and liver health.
  • Peppermint tea - A familiar flavor with some additional benefits. It can help with headache relief and offer sinus relief. It also keeps your breath smelling nice!
  • Lemon Balm Tea - Lemon balm has traditionally been used to improve someone's mood, encourage relaxation, and even help with concentration.
  • Ginger Tea - Ginger is widely suggested to help with an upset stomach and includes helpful antioxidants to keep you feeling good.
  • Chamomile Tea - Often used to encourage relaxation and sleepiness. Has also been shown to offer mild muscle and menstrual cramp relief.
  • Rooibos Tea - Has been shown to improve circulation, manage cholesterol, and benefit hair and skin.

If you do want some caffeine, green tea has been used in many studies which show benefits to cholesterol, reducing the risk of blood clots, is anti-inflammatory, and can potentially prevent certain cancers. Black tea has also been studied and reported to have anti-inflammatory properties, and promote a healthy immune system.

If you'd like to try tea blends that combine several ingredients for a unique flavor or specific benefits, brands such as Yogi or Pukka offer many wonderful options.

Additional benefits

You can also create a wonderful ritual while you make a cup of tea. Taking the time to boil water, getting your favorite mug, and steeping the tea is a great time to have a self check-in. You can identify how you're feeling, practice some positive self-talk, or even do a quick Alpha Sequence.

Having a cup of tea with a friend or family member is also a lovely way to share a bonding moment or daily check-in. It can be a source of nostalgia for a lot of people. You can also create your own new routine that will turn into nostalgia in the future.

If you are struggling with excessive snacking, drinking too many sugary drinks, or want to incorporate a new healthy habit, reach for a cup of tea!
