After releasing tears and decades of generational pain, Jim continued, “My father never meant to be so hard on me. He only wanted me to avoid the pain and struggle he endured, and saw his own father suffer with. My grandfather felt like a failure, because he couldn’t properly provide for his family. Even though so many others were suffering in the same way, at the same time. My father vowed to not let that happen to us. That’s why he was so strict. That’s why nothing less than perfect was allowed.”

Jim took his experience of being his father, and it helped him to understand what his customers may be feeling. He used the same technique to understand what his employees may be feeling. The things they are afraid of, the things that keep them up at night. And it changed him; it empowered him.
